The Poisonwood Blog Post

I decided that, rather than do my final paper on a Brandon Sanderson book, I'd like to write my paper on Barbara Kingsolver's The Poisonwood Bible, which is an absolutely amazing book that I read in high school for a small book assignment. I couldn't get much into the book because of the size of the assignment in question, so I'd love to use it for this assignment so I can go much more in-depth. It is also an important look at political upheavals such as that of the Belgian Congo, where the story takes place.

Besides the fact that Kingsolver is an established author in the literary canon and this book provides ample material for literary discussion, it's also a fantastic book just to read. The assignment I read it for let us choose the book, and the reason I picked it was because my teacher had been reading it in her spare time and gushing over it at the beginning of class. So many people I know (relatives, teachers on Facebook, friends) love to talk about the book and all of the themes it has within it. It's the kind of book that everyone can get something out of. Finally, I also did a search of blogs only on blogspot and still found a plethora of blogs dedicated to discussing themes and devices within The Poisonwood Bible.

  1. I've never heard of The Poisonwood Bible, but you seem to have good choice in books, so I might give it a try!
