Bride Over Sleepy Theses

Swim on ocean green boy,
Swim on by.
Your time has come to Nap.
All your dreams are on their way.
See how they Nap.
If you need a friend, I'll Nap right behind.
Like a bridge over Sleepy Theses,
I will ease your mind.
Like a bridge over Sleepy Theses,
I will ease your mind.

And here's to you, Mr Donne,

Vivian loves you more than you will know
.Oh bless you, please Mr Donne.
Heaven holds a place for those who Nap.
Hey, hey, hey.

Nap on metaphysical John, Nap on metaphysical John.

What're we gonna tell our friends when they say ooh la la?
Nap on metaphysical John, Nap on metaphysical John!

^Lyrics made by a lyric generator when I was supposed to be writing my theses.

Policy Claim: Although Professor E.M. Ashford was a scholar, she embodies a healthy way of combining intellectual pursuits with compassion, setting an example for how Vivian should have led her life.

Definition claim: Vivian made a point throughout the play to inform others about her success as an important scholar of Donne, however, she realized what true success was as she experienced flashbacks.

Comparison claim: Jason's scholarship and Susie's compassion are representative of the two different sides of Vivian that evolve throughout the play.

Evaluation claim: Vivian's changing word choice from inspired to mundane reflects how her ability to deal with her cancer through intellectual means has worsened.

Causal claim: The intellectual lens through which Vivian views her life and sickness was influenced by her intense devotion to studying Donne's poems, but the lack of peace brought from this way of thinking results in the dramatic change of Vivian's character.

  1. I like your policy claim because I also thought Professor Ashford was an important example for Vivian and a way to show the--as you said--healthy way of teaching and interacting.

  2. I really liked your causal claim, because it addresses a major point in the play but in a way that is different then I would have thought to do it. In that way, I would be interested and asking questions a long the way. I also like in your definition claim how you point out the difference between the ideas of success.
