Research for Kayla

Here are some possible sources for Kayla's paper. Hopefully this is helpful!

(1) Miller, Suzanne M., Deborah J. Bowen, Robert T. Croyle, and Julie H. Rowland. Handbook of cancer control and behavioral science: A resource for researchers, practitioners, and policy makers. Washington DC: US : American Psychological Association, 2009. Print.

This source looks at the important relationship between a cancer patient and their provider, especially in terms of communication. This applies to the paper because it can explore the interactions between Vivian and Jason and why they were so emotionally ineffective for her.

(2) Moore, Rhonda J., and David Spiegel. Cancer, Culture, and Communication. New York: Kluwer/ Plenum, 2004. Print.

This source again focuses on the relationship between a patient and their doctors. It covers communication and other aspects of cancer life. This is helpful in again looking in to the relationship between Vivian and Jason and why she was unable to be honest with him.

(3) Rajaraman, B, B Dey, PP Majumder, S Mayor, and MR Pillai. "First International Workshopson Provocative Questions (PQ) in Cancer Research, October-November 2014, New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Thiruvananthapuram, India." Journal Of Cancer Policy 6 (2015): 33-36. Print.

This could be a helpful source because it focuses on the importance of research and collaborative work. Jason proudly despised such work, and this is part of his emotional distance from everyone around him.

(4) Froggatt, K, N Preston, N Turner, and C Kurr. "Patient and public involvement in research and the Cancer Experiences Collaborative: benefits and challenges." BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care 5 (2015): 518-21. Print.

This article could also be helpful with showing the benefits of collaboration, but it also goes into the affects of motivation and communication on cancer patients during their treatment. This could expand on the flaws in the relationship between Jason and Vivian,

(5) Wilson, Deirdre. "Irony comprehension: A developmental perspective." Journal of Pragmatics 59.A (2013): 40-56. Print.

This source talks about irony as a literary and verbal device, and it could be useful for delving more into the irony of both Vivian and Jason's character in their statements and actions.
